How to find the first mention of a hashtag, word or link on Twitter

Here’s a potentially handy tool for journalists who may want to find the first person who shared a video link, or find out who started off a trending hashtag on Twitter.

Who Said It First was developed by Amit Agarwal after Twitter opened up its archives last year.

Twitter itself offers a similar function, however, as Amit noted, there is a lot of trial and error involved with finding the first mention on its own search function.

This isn’t the case with Who Said It First, which performs a number of JavaScript requests to whittle down the first tweeter.

I should note that the app currently only works on desktop.

Hope it’s useful. For a bit of fun, Amit has also collated together the people who first tweeted a now iconic name or term.
