MuRli to A Smyth – 12 tracks on the Music in Mind playlist

October 11, 2020

1. Broken Social Scene, Remember Me Young
Compact mostly-instrumental track from their 2019 EP Let’s Try the After Vol. 1.

2. Denise Chaila, Murli, God Knows, Sorcha Richardson, Out The Gaff
Dropped unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago and one of the songs of the year. Produced by James Vincent McMorrow

3. Eels, Fresh Blood
Howling 2009 single full of vampire-lust.

4. Radiohead, Let Down
About once a year I return to OK Computer and am rarely anything but astounded. One of the many highlights.

5. Tom Petty, You Don’t Know How It Feels
Gorgeous demo of a classic track, three years on from his untimely death.

6. My Morning Jacket, Wasted
Recorded as part of the sessions for their 2015 album, this hard rock gem saw the light of day earlier this summer on The Waterfall 2.

7. Van Morrison, Real Real Gone
We may have lost Van to the conspiracy theorists, but we’ll always have the music.

8. MuRli, Till The Wheels Fall Off
Another fantastic track from the talented Limerick rapper/producer. Video fittingly recorded at Dalymount Park.  As he says himself “I wrote this in February after another episode of football racism, where a footballer the Portuguese league walked off the pitch after incessant racist abuse throughout the match. Watching all of that unfold I was broken, baffled and full of questions. The only thing I could do then, was to channel all I was feeling into my art. This song is a small part of it. After the events of the last few days, I felt I should share it with the world.”

9. The Cribs, I Don’t Know Who I Am
The Wakefield trio join forces once again with Sonic Youth‘s Lee Ranaldo for the latest track from their forthcoming eighth album Night Network.

10. A Smyth, Don’t Let Me Down
A Smyth has again hit on gold with this gem and first official single from a debut to be released next year.

11. Turn, In Position
Former Turn frontman Oliver Cole is back at the end of this month with his third solo album. The news drew me back to this gem from his former band

12. Gorilaz (Feat. Elton John), The Pink Phantom
End of the party tune, taking the temperature of the moment.
